Urban Scholars
I have been asked to do a lecture for over 100 young people on the urban scholars programme. This is a programme set up to help people achieve their full potential. I will be talking about the dedication, sacrifice but ultimately the feeling off fullfilment you have when you start to realise your dreams. I will be talking about the positivity needed when things don’t go as planned and how to keep on going no matter what, ( you know, light subject matter?!) Hopefully by sharing some personal experiences it should be interesting, if not it will just be me chatting rubbish on stage in front of over a 100 young people, standard fare really! should be fun! If you were at the lecture let me know what you thought feedback is always appreciated. have a good weekend!
keep dancin
Andy

HEY!!
It was so cool being a urban srides ninja yesterday. It was the best thing I could have possibly imagined to do in the middle of the concert in the o2 .Your dancing was really good and inspiring. It was one of the most exciting thing i did in my life.I would’ve liked it if the moves were a bit harder and more hardcore. Anyway I liked it.
OH AND THANK YOU FOR DOING THE DANCE WITH THE YOUNGVOICES CHOIR.

Hi, just to let you know that the lecture was an inspiration and credit has to be given to you. It was inspirational seeing the way your life and job are intertwined and that you actually love what you do with a greater passion than most.
“we shall never excell in anything if we see ourselves as master of which we want to succeed at, we must remain a student and study with a love that makes the goal worth achieving”
i hope you change many more peoples lives for the better and keep on doing the job you love, for now many people see the work you are doing and are becoming part of the ‘community’ that they idolize.
keep the excellent work and the inspirational talks up! for if we do not work for anything we never acheive our goals or ambitions!

The amazing thing about being a tutor on this scheme is that you get to experience sessions like the one you delivered last Saturday! You should be bottled and available to every school, every student in the country! Your energy and enthusiasm were infectious and everything you said was so true. What an inspiration! Many, many thanks. I can’t wait to see you ‘live’ in action…hope your diary’s free for July!

Hello Andy and Scholars,
What a fantastic way to finish the programme for this year. So many messages which were realy in the spirt of our programme. Thank you for giving us your precious time, I think the impact was such that there will always now be a voice in all our heads telling us to ‘go for it’ in times of doubt.
We hope to see you on July 5th. All these messages so far illustrate how much you were appreciated and please note ‘ Professor’ Valsa Koshy thought you weere great also.
thanks,
Carole

Your talk today was such a great end to the Year 11s time at Urban Scholars. The messages from your talk were so clear and accessible. I think you should make a card with your formula for success on it, eg 1 ask for help, 2 get your ass out of bed etc. Then people can look at it as a reminder when they’re struggling! What also came across to me (other than your talents for communicating and dancing) was your genuine concern for other people and your want to give something back, these are such truly admirable qualities. You are needed in every school in the country so I hope lots more young people around the country get to hear your message and have an experience like we had at Urban Scholars! I can see you create your own ‘luck’ and I wish you every success in the future.

THANK you soo much for coming in and giving us great words of incouragement ( definately one of the main highlights of my time at the programme) …… GET YOUR ASS OUT OF BED has to be the biggest one for me as i am TERRIBLE when it comes to actualy getting up and motivating myself to do something….. so you have helped me to think about that one!!!
Keep on dancing and showing the young people that you can go after and achieve your dreams..

I just want to say a massive thank you it was so motivational and good to know that in life it’s possible to be successful with determination and hard work. You should be so proud of yourself for touching some many hearts and minds. All I have left so say is keep up the extremly good work and for making a difference in what can be a a difficult world.

Thanks for such a great speech yesterday. I will remember the only way to succeed is to take an educated risk and exceed expectations. Something I will remember forever (I hope *fingers crossed* if I don’t then I suppose I will not be as successful as you).

Hi Andy,
Thanks again for the wonderfully motivating talk you did for the Scholars today, I have worked with the programme for 10 year and I can promise you I have never seen them so motivated, touched and with so much belief in themselves as I did after your session. Thanks also for reminding me to always stay a student, it is a very powerful thing to know that we all need to keep learning. Congratulations on all that you have accomplshed and on all that you will continue to succeed in as I I have a feeling you are far from achieving all that you have ever wanted.
Just one last thank you for transmitting that passion and enthusiam to all the scholars and staff.

Hey Andy,
I thought that your presentation was excellent, and it inspired me a lot. I realise now that I have to do loads to get what I want to achieve, thanks to you.
You have also taught me how to give back after all that you can get, especially for people less fortunate, and also to exceed expectations and make calculated risks.
I hope that what you have told me and the rest of the Urban Scholars will be very valuable to us in the near future.
I hope that you and your workshop have a better and greater future ahead.
Thanks again,
Rahul

Hi Andy,
Your lecture today was inspiring, truly. The work you do is amazing and the journey you’ve made to achieve your dream has inspired me to take risks (calculated ones!) and not to be torn down by other people.
My dream is to be an author, and I’ve always been told I can’t do it - but after your lecture today I’ve decided to trust my own judgment and not only go by what other people think.
I don’t think I will ever be able to explain how much you have inspired me - that one lecture has changed the way I view the possible reality of my dream.
Urban Strides looks great - I know quite a few people that would be interested and I’ll be sure to spread the word!
Never stop inspiring people, it’s definatly your gift!
Thank-you so much for taking the time to talk to us,
Amy x

March 15th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Thanx Andy your lecture was totally inspirational!!! Your enthusiastic attitude had a great impact on I hope everyone! You’ve made me realise that I can never do anything alone, but should know when to make my own decisions and take risks! If I want something badly, I will definately ask for it and I’ll be nice no matter what attitude they give me! lol. x. I’ll try my best to EXCEED EXPECTATIONS!!!

March 15th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Hey!!
I thought you were great!!
It’s really inspiring knowing you are so young and you have achieved so much and that it can be done with hard work.
Thank you for coming to the Urban Scholars programme, you helped me motivate myself to get information on what i want to do.
I have realised that the career i had planned i don’t really want!
I want to be involved in music, either singing or playing the viola and i want to do what i can to help people less fortunate than me. Whether it is just teaching other people in my school something that i am good at, giving friendly advice to other people in my school or fundraising these are things that i am passionate about.
I have decided to talk to teachers etc at school and ask for help!!
Thank you so much.
Keep up all the great stuff and good luck for the future.
Love Kayleigh xxx
